Overview of the enrollment process
Osmio VRD's enrollment work is done
The Osmio Vital Records Department (Osmio VRD) has now finished its enrollment work – it has gathered what it needs for the creation of your Osmio ID Pair:
This is incorporated into a "P12 file," protected by the password you provided in Step 2. (The password is needed to protect the secret PEN that’s in the P12 file.)
The P12 file is an IT standard format for a portable description of a certificate and its “key pair.”
Your operating system and browser will take it from here
Osmio VRD is not involved in this final part of enrollment,
except to provide you with easy-to-follow instructions
for saving and importing the P12 file into the secure
place – the "keystore" – where your functioning Osmio
ID Pair will live on your device.
These instructions are specific to the operating system and browser you are using.
Editorial comment from the Authenticity Institute
There’s no technical reason why importing and management of identity certificates needs to be complicated.
Think about how the corporate players in our information infrastructure would feel about relinquishing their control, theft, and sale of your information.
The P12 file will now be handed off to YOU to follow the process required by your operating system and browser, to convert that P12 file into a working Osmio ID Pair. This is called “importing” the P12 file.
● Simple identity verification (why so simple?)
● An email address
● Those two large numbers – your PCN and PEN
However, easy access to managing and understanding identity certificates would make it easier for users to control the use of information about themselves.
